What do I need to do to qualify to register?

  • Applications can only be accepted from candidates who already have the right to work in the UK or their desired location(s)
  • You must be able to prove your eligibility and also provide identification and proof of address
  • You must also possess the specified experience if you are applying for a specific vacancy
  • If you don’t want to submit your CV right away, fill out our contact form and we will get back to you

How long will the process take?

  • This varies from company to company and some vacancies can move more quickly than others
  • Some vacancies can be filled within a week whereas others can take several months
  • Where possible, we will let you know at the outset, how long the process will take

Are all your vacancies advertised on your website?


No, when we handle confidential roles or do retained assignments for clients, we cannot advertise these positions. If you are registered with us, we can open these up to you if you have the required experience and qualifications

Some advertised jobs do not show salaries or benefits – why is this?

We always want to show as much detail on our adverts as we can however sometimes our client asks us not to disclose certain information at advert stage.​

What happens when a job comes up that I may be suitable for?


  • When a job comes up which we feel will be of interest we will contact you. If appropriate we will submit your CV on your behalf.
  • You should keep checking our website on a regular basis though in case a job comes up that you may also be interested in.

Do I have to pay to register for advice or pay you if you find me a job?


No. Our clients pay us for finding suitable candidates therefore we are instructed by them.


There are some outplacement firms who charge for career coaching and mentoring and we can recommend some partners to you if required

What is the best format for a CV? / How do I make my CV outstanding?

There is so much advice on CV format and presentation and it can become confusing!

What happens if I do not see an advertised job but want to register for other vacancies?

  • Submit your CV when you register as a candidate or contact us.
  • Once you register with Zed, we will listen to you, let you know if we can assist you and if so we can agree the next steps.

Can Zed recruitment help me find contract work?

Yes, Zed can help place Candidates in contract roles. 

  • Contract or temporary work is often an option if perhaps you have relocated and are looking for a permanent role or maybe your last job became redundant. Increasingly, contract work is seen as a career choice.
  • Contract work can also add excellent experience to your CV and increases your opportunity to earn more money.
  • At Zed Recruitment, we can offer selected senior level assignments which normally last for at least 6 months.

What is the difference between contract, temporary and fixed term contracts?

  • Contract work is normally done on a self-employed basis under your own limited company and you can invoice either Zed or the company you are contracting with
  • Temporary work is when you are working through Zed with a company and we will pay you through a timesheet  - normally on a weekly basis
  • Fixed-term contract work is when you work with a company on their payroll for a specified amount of time  - the notice period on a FTC is usually longer than with temporary or contract work 

Who will tell me if I am invited to interview?

  • Zed Recruitment will be in touch to make all your interview arrangements whether it be for a face-to-face interview or by telephone or video conference
  • All interview arrangements will be confirmed by us in writing - you only need to do your interview preparation and company research. Zed will also help you with this
  • If you have further concerns around interviews please look at our interview advice section

Who covers interview expenses?

The general rule is that you pay for local interview expenses. 

If you have far to travel or require overnight accommodation then employers will usually pay for this or at least help with the cost. Zed can organise and confirm this in advance.

What can I do to manage my interview nerves?


Interview nerves are quite normal and some nerves are good. Read our advice for interviews.

  • Most of our candidates operate at quite a senior level and are often more experienced interviewers than interviewees. We will be on hand to provide any advice you want and we think that you may need
  • If appropriate we can put you in touch with some partner firms who charge for career coaching and interview mentoring.

What happens after the interview?

  • After your interviews we must hear your feedback
  • We will also contact the client who interviewed you and get feedback from them too. We will then agree the next stage     
  • In the case of a positive outcome this may mean another meeting, or an offer of employment; whatever the outcome we will give you as much constructive feedback as we can or discuss and negotiate the offer with you.
  • In the case of a negative outcome we will provide as much constructive criticism as possible.
  • Our aim at all times is to be transparent with everyone 

What happens when I am offered a job?


Normally, offers of employment will come via Zed Recruitment. Again we will offer advice to you throughout this process

If required, who pays for my relocation expenses?

​It depends on the employer/opportunity, but in most cases they will make travel and temporary living arrangements for you. This will have been made clear to you before your CV was submitted for the opportunity so there should be no surprises

What is the difference between contingency and retained search?

Contingency search is when a recruitment consultancy carries out a search for suitable applicants for a role and charges a fee on a success only basis. 

When a recruitment consultancy is retained, there is an upfront cost for this service. These costs can differ from recruiter to recruiter and often is split into 3 payments of equal amounts. This will typically be one third on retention, one third on provision of a suitable short list and one third on the successful introduction of a suitable candidate for the vacancy.
